Almost one in five Americans who work from home clock in for an hour or less per day, while a third of those recently surveyed by CareerBuilder stay in their pajamas.
Forty percent work less than their eight-hour day, and 17 percent do just the bare minimum while telecommuting.
And of those who stayed in their pajamas, 22 percent were men and 41 percent were women.
Why the lack of productivity? Household chores took the prize for most of the distractions, while doing other menial work to avoid the tasks at hand claimed much of the rest.
To the employees who telecommute: establish a routine to help you transition into work mode, find a dedicated place to work (avoid the couch in front of the TV), and take work out of the house if you need to.
To the employers who allow telecommuting: establish goals and expectations early, and encourage your colleagues to stay connected.
