Ten years ago Windows XP was released, and it’s still the biggest target for hackers and malware authors. About 58% of all Windows machines are still running Windows XP, even though Windows 7 has been on the market for two years now.
According to Avast, a popular antivirus software maker, a recent report showed that a whopping 74% of infected computers were running Windows XP, compared to only 12% running Windows 7. One of the reasons provided is that Windows 7 has much better security – that is agreeably true.
Regardless of your Windows version, it is critically important that your Internet security product remain both current and updated. Last week I came across a Windows XP machine still running Norton Antivirus 2003. Fortunately, no malware was on that machine, but the customer’s Internet security program definitely needed upgraded.
Even if you are absolutely certain that your Internet security product is current and updated, check again – I give you permission to be paranoid about such things.
